About Me

Born in Saginaw, Michigan Jeremy Rilko is a banjo player living in Asheville, North Carolina. After serving four years in the Air Force he separated to attend Western Michigan University. This is where he was introduced to bluegrass music. He attended bluegrass festivals which led him to purchase a banjo at the age of 24 and dove into learning Scruggs style banjo. Early on in his playing days he was exposed to the likes of fellow Michigan natives: Billy Strings and Greensky Bluegrass as well as Bela Fleck and John Hartford. After completing college he threw everything in his car and moved to Asheville, NC and began to cut his teeth at the local bluegrass jams.

He has been a member of Michigan based Who Hit John?, Supper Break and is currently a member of The Well Drinkers and The Asheville Cats. As a performer he has had the privilege to share the stage with: Vince Herman, Lindsay Lou, Molly Tuttle, Ketch Secor, Darren Nicholson, members of Town Mountain and Fireside Collective. He has also performed at The Woodford Folk Festival (Australia) and Merlefest.

He is on the verge of releasing a full length album of original music in April. It contains tunes that he has been crafting over the years on the banjo and guitar. Some songs are straight ahead driving bluegrass while others are more crafted with sweet melodies and lyrics.
